These tie-downs work well on a car without a rack. The car is protected, the board is protected and held well. I did one long trip with a board on the car, and now use them all the time for the short drive to the beach. I don’t cinch them down too tight on my son’s soft (foam) board, because the board gets indents, but this is due to the type of board, not any problem with the tie straps. These have kept me from having to buy a rack for the car, which I would have had to buy straps and pads for anyway.

It was on the family’s yearly trip to the Outer Banks as I watched my baby cousins splash and giggle through the filmy water that an epiphany struck me; my life was blessed with a most valuable diversity. I browsed through my family, noting the array of colors, considering the contradicting viewpoints and beliefs, recalling the various religions and recognizing the sundry languages. As I sat on the pale beach and looked up at a sharp formation of pelicans, I could not help but to compare these graceful creatures to my life. He flashed his dimpled grin at me as he coaxed my baby cousin into the water. My eyes focused on his matted onyx curls, reminding how much longer his mane had been when we first met. I remembered how easy it was for me to connect with someone from such a different background. The exotic foods like joojeh, the unfamiliar Farsi tongue, and the new Islamic ideals that I had never experienced before. They were all so different from what I knew but something allowed me to openly understand and have tolerance for these values. As the wind blew through my hair and the sting of the sun started to settle on my skin, I felt so thankful for even the smallest influences my family and friends have had on my life. From the five different races, four different religions and countless personalities I have gained so many things; tolerance of others values, understanding of others situations, a taste for various types of art, food, literature, but most of all an open and accepting mind. Without these essential pieces of my disposition, I would not be me.
