These tie-downs work well on a car without a rack. The car is protected, the board is protected and held well. I did one long trip with a board on the car, and now use them all the time for the short drive to the beach. I don’t cinch them down too tight on my son’s soft (foam) board, because the board gets indents, but this is due to the type of board, not any problem with the tie straps. These have kept me from having to buy a rack for the car, which I would have had to buy straps and pads for anyway.

It seems that no surf rack manufacturer wants to list helpful information – such as dimensions – online, so I just had to order something and see how it worked. The directions that came with it were not much better. So what I don’t know is whether my 9×3 stand-up paddleboard is too wide to be compatible with these racks. I simply could not get them tight enough to hold my board down comfortably at highway speeds, and after stopping three times to tighten them, I ended up using a rope toward the front of the car for extra support. Maybe it’s because this is the first time I was using it, and the straps need to stretch out a bit. I don’t know. They’re fine up to about 35mph, but after that, it’s a scary ride. I do recommend putting the front rack as close to the front of the car as possible; that seems to stabilize it. But pull tight, and have a rope for backup!

A friend of mine already had this soft rack and after using his I decided to purchase my own. It’s perfect for one or two boards. We normally have two 8-footers on our mid-size sedan and it’s totally fine…even at 75mph on the freeway. Surf’s up.

Been using this rack in several different rented and borrowed cars while on vacation, and have no complaints. Looks kind of flimsy, but once snugged up, it helds my 9′ windsurf board securely, with no apparent slippage even at freeway speeds. No problems with roof denting, and the straps wrap tightly through the weatherstripping around the doors without leaving a permanent impression. For long-term use, get a real rack, but for occasional or short-term use, this is a great solution.

I got this to use while my normal surf hauler was out of town. These work better than expected and really lock down the boards tighter than I thought they would. Easy to use and take on/off. Would definetely recommend.

This tiny camera delivers as advertised, but you may not need it. I use it kayaking (touring, not whitewater), but I take along another camera for what I hope are better pictures. After you mount the camera, you have no control over what it sees. I set mine for a photo every 5 seconds; it can take slightly over 1900 shots in that mode. Because of the fixed position on the kayak, the boat motion, and some wobbling in the camera mount, many photos will not be in focus. If the interesting scenery is not where the camera is pointed, tough luck. You also have to be careful that you have started the camera with the setting you want, as there is no audible feedback nor any meaningful setting display on the lcd. However, with a little practice you should be able to get the setting you want, even though it would be quite helpful to have the camera give some feedback. Some of my photos come out well, particularly if the sun is in the proper position (bright sunshine can be a problem). I use Picasa to move the photos to my pc, and all of that works automatically. Just remember that moving nearly 2000 photos can take some time. Everybody says the camera eats the AAA batteries, so I change mine every 2-3 hours. The wide angle lens produces photos with the fishbowl effect at the edges, but you will probably always crop that out anyway. You will need a mount for it, and I advise a tether as well (I use a paddle leash).

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/ROPYY9NBPBX6 This is the Gopro Surf Hero on the nose of my 6′4″ Fish. It was easy to attach to my board, easy to video and easy to edit. The camera does eat batteries.

Great product for the price. I used it on my surfboard for a trip to Nicaragua and then at home on my motocross helmet. I highly suggest for any action sport.
